Jay is proud that countless clients have retained him for over forty years to handle not only their business affairs, but personal matters as well. There is no substitute for experience and no substitute for providing exemplary legal services.
Jay began his legal career at Kelley Drye & Warren LLP and then practiced at a mid-sized law firm for many years before forming his own practice, Mailman Law.
Jay focuses his practice on real estate transactions, trusts and estates, and business law. As such he regularly represents clients in the acquisition and disposition of residential and commercial real estate, in 1031 exchanges, in negotiating commercial and residential leases and in real estate financing and refinancing matters. He also prepares wills, living wills, health care proxies, powers of attorney, trusts, and tenancy agreements. Jay advises a diverse corporate clientele and routinely forms limited liability companies (LLCs) and corporations and prepares operating agreements, shareholder agreements and partnership agreements. He takes the time to learn how clients’ businesses operate and represents real estate investment and management companies, manufacturers, retailers and start-ups.
Jay is proud of the strong, long-lasting relationships that he has developed with clients. His experience enables him to advise clients on what can and cannot be done and how to best approach issues so that they are resolved in the fastest and least costly manner possible, knowing that, particularly in New York City, an attorney has to be prepared to act expeditiously in order to save a deal.
Jay has developed an extensive network of professionals ranging from accountants to title insurers to mortgage brokers and is able to make quality recommendations to ensure that all of his clients' needs are met.
